Sectigo has announced that it will transition from Comodo CA roots to USERTrust CA roots

Sectigo has announced that it will transition from Comodo CA roots to USERTrust CA roots

Sectigo CA has announced that it will stop using Comodo CA roots. The transition to the new USERTrust CA roots should occur on 14th January 2019. This will allow Sectigo to remove any existing references to the Comodo brand – in particular, from the intermediate and root CAs.

The USERTrust CA roots have existed since 2000 and are widely trusted. The most current versions were created in 2010. Moving to USERTrust CA roots will allow Sectigo to completely dissociate itself from using the Comodo brand in its infrastructure.

This continues the outlined plan for the separation of the Sectigo from the Comodo Group, which we have already written about.

What does this mean for users of Sectigo (formerly Comodo) SSL certificates?

All changes will occur for clients in the background – no action is required. All existing certificates will remain active and trusted until the end of their validity period.

The new chain of intermediate certificates will be applied to all issued or renewed certificates from 14th January 2019.
